The Process
Turning your innovation into funded reality, one step at a time.
Finding Calls
- The EIC Transition application process is built around three key steps: submitting your written proposal, getting evaluated by the EIC Jury, and pitching your project in a face-to-face interview. Each successful step unlocks the next.
- You’ll find a breakdown of each step in the application process—including how long each one typically takes—in the EIC Work Programme , under the EIC Transition chapter titled “How do you apply; how long does it take?”
Registration
- Every organisation involved must register (or already be registered) on the portal and obtain a Participant Identification Code (PIC). If you have questions about this process, you can watch the PIC registration and validation process video for guidance.
Proposal submission
- You’ll need to submit your proposal through the portal before the deadline. EIC Transition calls usually close around September (Q3). To find open calls, go to the portal, set the Programme filter to “HORIZON,” the submission status to “Open for submission,” and search for “EIC TRANSITION OPEN.”
- If your written proposal makes the cut during the jury evaluation, you’ll be invited to the interview stage. If your proposal meets all the evaluation thresholds but doesn’t get selected for funding, you’ll still receive a Seal of Excellence, a strong endorsement you can leverage elsewhere.
Evaluation
- Written proposals will be assessed according to three assessment criteria: excellence, impact, and implementation quality and efficiency as detailed on the EIC Work Programme chapter “How does the EIC decide if your proposal will be funded?” section.
- If your written proposal is selected for funding when evaluated by the EIC Jury (step two) you will be invited for the interview (step three).
- If your application is successful, you can expect the grant agreement to be signed within about six months of the call deadline. From there, your project is expected to kick off within two months of signing.
