The Municipal Resilience Facility project is an initiative funded by the EU Regional Trust Fund in response to the Syrian crisis. This fund is also known as the MADAD Fund and is managed by the European Investment Bank. EIB Global is providing project development support to water sector projects under this facility to help clients with feasibility studies, a review of project designs, assistance to appraise investments, quality assurance of tender documentation, monitoring of procurement, and supervision of the works. Resilience and transformation in Southeast Türkiye
Mahsunde Dağcı, a livestock farmer living in the Yavuzeli district of Gaziantep, recalls how she used to take her animals to a stream that flowed with polluted water. Today, she has clean water for her home and livestock: “The quality of the water has made a difference in the health of our animals,” she says. “We used to face diseases caused by dirty water, but now those problems are gone.”
Clean water project transforms community
Halime Kızıl, who was born and raised in the Harran district of Şanlıurfa, is painting the wooden chairs on her veranda. Thanks to a project organised by the European Union, the European Investment Bank, ILBANK and the Şanlıurfa Metropolitan Municipality, she no longer has to worry about finding water to wash her hands. When she’s finished, she just turns on the tap. “We used to endure long water cuts and wait for hours,” she says. “Now, we have no problems. We always have water.”
